The World Cup starts in Ponte di Legno and Tonale
The Ponte di Legno - Tonale area is increasingly establishing itself as a reference area for the world of ski mountaineering. It will also be so on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December, when it will have the honor and the task of hosting the opening races of the Ski World Cup. An important recognition, which the International Federation of reference (ISMF) wanted to assign to the Adamello Ski Team committee for the organizational skills demonstrated last year during the Italian championships, but above all for many editions of the Adamello Ski Raid completed, a of the international rankings of this sport.
As these are the debut races of the World Cup, the program includes the dispute of the sprint challenges, in the evening version, and the vertical race, where all the strongest performers in the world will be protagonists. Starting with the reigning world champion, the Valtellina blue Robert Antonioli, and the 2020 star, the Swiss world champion Marianne Fatton, with them the other Azzurri Alba De Silvestro, Matteo Eydallin, Michele Boscacci, Damiano Lenzi and the patrol Swiss coached by the Italian Oscar Angeloni, particularly strong in sprint challenges. There will be no lack of interest in the youth categories, given that the scheduled races also concern the under 23 and junior categories.
The program of the two days of the World Cup foresees on Saturday 19 December, starting from 16, the qualifications for the sprint race, followed by the semifinals and finals on the track that will develop, just like twelve months ago on the occasion of the Italian championships, on the final of the Corno d'Aola slope, which will be illuminated for the occasion.
A few hours of rest and then on Sunday morning of 20 December, with the start at 10 am, the vertical race will be staged starting near the valley station of the Corno d'Aola slope and arriving at high altitude.
The event following the existing health emergency will be behind closed doors without an audience and to make the most of the event the Organizing Committee, together with Infront Sport & Media (which holds the rights), will guarantee the production of images and an important distribution on a number of national and international televisions.
With a view to prevention, the ASST of Valcamonica will be alongside the organization in this very delicate moment. Following the indications of the ISMF (the International Ski Mountaineering Federation), the local health authority has in fact drawn up an ad hoc protocol that will be used to ensure the carrying out of this important event, which involves many nations, in maximum safety from a health point of view.
For Ponte di Legno and Passo del Tonale the organization of the opening tests of the World Cup is not the only seasonal appointment, because the seventh edition of the Adamello Ski Raid is also scheduled, scheduled for Saturday 10 April 2021, valid for the La Grande Course international circuit.
